Thank you for the thoughtful essay. Yes, the US has paid a heavy price over the decades for gross inconsistencies and errors in our foreign policy. Yes, Trump's chaotic rhetoric on the war has left even staunch supporters wanting. And yes, the Middle East is a complex and shadowy region that plays by rules that Westerners struggle to comprehend. Nonetheless, it seems to me that a confrontation with Iran's regime is not only justified but long overdue. While the price of $4.0+ gasoline at the pump bites, the price of a nuclear Iran will bite far more.
Connor, I sympathize—and also wonder about a “devil’s advocate” position. The outlet Promethean Action (political advocacy organization) might retort: high diesel and gasoline prices are not mainly “Tehran plus tariffs.” They are the result of 40 years without a new U.S. refinery, green zero-growth policy, and London price-setting. Iran is a shock on top of that broken system, not the system itself.
They would say Trump is trying to end a 47-year failed war policy and isolate a regime.
Polls and GOP hypocrisy on gas prices are real politics, they would concede—but the answer is to explain Hamiltonian reconstruction, not retreat because voters are hurting.
They would say ending the war to save midterm elections is the exact trade that the globalist / imperialist cabal wants: drop tariffs and Iran pressure so the old global system survives. For Promethean Action, that loses both the midterms and the agenda.
Canada, the City of London, the EU favor Ukraine hitting Russia to raise diesel prices. The descendents of the British Empire didn’t go away after 1776, and have sought to interfere with the American rise ever since.
Curious about your take on Promethean Action, regardless of how accurately I portrayed their position. They seem to have some helpful takes that are not reflected anyplace else in media.
I apologize for any mischaracterizations or unsophisticated explanations.
I was hoping based on Trump's first term that he would continue with no new wars. Touting a no-new-wars record was a big talking point for me when talking to friends and family. This Iran war is turning out to be as expensive and pointless as the Ukraine war.
In addition, I'd like to remind you of President Trump's successful actions which have increased US security by strengthening the Western Hemisphere (w/o AID, many Central & South Ameircan nations are voting out Communists, socialists, & cartels, China no longer controls the Panama Canal, Greenland has agreed to US involvement in their protection & more, etc.).
Yes, high prices are terrible, especially on gas and diesel, and this is a hardship on all, especially low income people. Recently I listened to an economist explain that even though inflation has decreased substantially, prices historically have remained high when inflation has decreased.
I'm keeping the long view in mind because we got into this mess long before President Trump took office even the first time. Over the course of many decades, Iran's threat has been placated, American public education has been dumbed down, very poor fiscal policies have been enacted & passed on to the next generation, etc.
President Trump is the first president in many years who's actually doing something about what has ailed America for decades. Real change to strengthen our Republic will not come easily or cheaply.
Mr. Boyack, I salute you as a true patriot for the betterment of this country in leading our youth towards a better future and telling it 'how it is' despite any 'blowback' of your own.
I have believe since the 90's that our nation should cease ALL foreign aid and interference and monitor our own borders (that one has been a sore spot for decades) and essentially 'sweep our OWN porch' before we clean up ANYWHERE else in the world.
Our own economy reflect the poor choices our government makes, and despite voting for President Trump in the last election (unless Montgomery Brewster and 'None of the Above' was a TRUE possibility) due to the opposition of the Democratic party in Kamala Harris, I feel that our country has been in dire straights for longer than the majority understand and know.
4$+ at the pumps (hitting close to 5$ near myself) is egregious as I can also recall gas sitting comfortably at 0.97 cents a gallon (near the turn of the century) and even under 2$ within the last half a decade. Being told it is a 'small price' by those with the fattest pocketbooks and cushiest and most lucrative jobs in this country (let alone in the WORLD) is insulting, even for a conservative libertarian at heart.
I certainly have believed (with no real background in politics, I must admit) that a DRAFT for our government (in general) would do wonders for our nation. Two years a piece (potentially) for every able bodied citizen with NO pay aside from room and board would show each and every member of our illustrious nation HOW this system of government works and it would keep those that DESIRE and SEEK power/fame/riches out of these seats of power that they covet.
Literal term limits of TWO two-year terms (should one find themselves truly desiring to benefit their country and constituents) and the promise of a transition back to the working force (likely harder than it seems I will certainly admit, but while we're wishing, the sky's the limit they say) would encourage us to maintain our own nation and borders with our own hands and skills and keep us focused on what I believe truly matters, America and our citizens.
I'll get off my soapbox for the time being, thank you again for all your hard work and the writing you release.
I pray God continues to Bless your work, and our nation.

Connor - I concur with what Alicia Jones stated below, & I'd also like to remind you of all that has been accomplished by the second Trump administration with this article: https://www.rodmartin.org/p/trumps-top-25-achievements-the-list?triedRedirect=true "Trump's Top 25 Achievements" in The Rod Martin Report.

This war is difficult to justify. Watch Dave Smith take apart person after person in debate on this very issue.
